Love & Art

Every day when I walk to work I see signage advertising the Mori Art Museum's Love exhibit located conveniently inside my building.  I realized this week that it was the last week that the exhibit would be around so I finally managed to get out of work in time to go see it one night! I am sooooo glad I did.  I absolutely loved it.  This museum was a statement on the intersection of love and art.  The museums stance is one does not exist without the other, and I totally agree! Surrounding this theme were so many different types of pieces.  There were famous western artists like Chagall, Frieda Kahlo, and Picasso.  There were also pieces from the Edo period of Japan.  While I love art and these masterpieces were simply a treat to see, my favorite part of the museum was the modern art or pieces that would not traditionally be classified as art.

Some of these more modern pieces were very interactive and interesting.  One of the pieces was a room in which you are  handed a break up letter when you walk in.  After reading the letter, you read about what the exhibit shows.  The artist went through a terrible break up and as a part of her healing process, she distributed her break up letter to number of artists who interpreted the letter in their own way.  These pieces ranged from Bharatnatyam dances, mimes, paintings, photos, tapestries, recordings etc.  Walking through this room was a fascinating experience not only because you got to see so many talented artists pieces of work but because everyone interpreted the letter so differently. This was one of many incredible exhibits.

Unfortunately I was not able to take photographs in the museum except for in the last two show rooms. Here are the two pictures I got, but for those of you that are interested I bought the book too which has images of all the exhibits in the museum.  It is closed now, but otherwise I would said it's a must go for art lovers.  I look forward to the next exhibit they have.  I can't read Japanese but I have been told that the next exhibit will feature young Japanese artists!

This corner of my room is turning into my Japan corner filled with all the things I buy from museums!
